The Skin You're In: Dr. Thomas LaVeist Documentary Luncheon

Special Thanks to:

*Dr. Thomas LaVeist
*Renee Frazier CEO, Common Table Health Alliance
*Keith Norman, Vice-President For Government Affairs Baptist Hospital System
*Caitlin Marshall Private Dining Manager with Owen Brennan’s

The luncheon held on Saturday, Jan 30th was a huge success!!!! It was well attended (45 people) by both NAHSE members and Common Table Health Alliance supporters. Dr. LaVeist gave an outstanding presentation around health disparities and population health. He previewed his new movie, “The Skin You’re In,” a documentary about astonishing African-American health disparities- why they exist, and what can be done about it. The film investigates disparity between Black and White health in America.

Dr. LaVeist was scheduled to leave the day of the event, but was persuaded by NAHSE member, Keith Norman to stay in order to spearhead an additional fundraising event the next day. As a result, NAHSE-Memphis contributed $2500 to the LaVeist Project, with additional proceeds from First Baptist Church-Broad, Bluff City Medical Society, and Past NAHSE President Jonathan Watkins. Dr. LaVeist departed Memphis on Sunday with contributions exceeding $10,000.

Thanks again to all that participated in making this event a huge success!
